SPRING DOCUMENTATION FILM FOOTAGE 1994

Cinematography by Mark Patten and edited by Rob Sullivan.

This work consists of an open topped clear acrylic tube which is filled with water. Underneath is placed a variable speed silent motor, which powers a small impeller based in the tank. Intended to have interaction with the viewer, viewers are able to control the speed and timing of the motor to create infinite variations of vortexes within the tube.
Due to the nature of the tank having an open top, incidental debris can fall into the water and so be pulled into the water currents. When this occurs it is possible to see the different flow within and around the vortex.
